Horus Temple

Sorry I haven’t been on in a while. We’ve had a grueling few days plus the internet is not as easy to access here. I have been writing each day as things happen-the posts are just later though.

On Wednesday we had to rise earlier to depart our boat at 7:30. We were docked in Edfu and went to see the Horus Temple that was started in 137 BC and took about 200 years to build. It as built to Honor Horus, the falcon god and we heard the story about how he came to be.

The temple is very well preserved, so again we were able to see a lot of hieroglyphics and pictures depicting how the priests honored Horus.

There was again a myriad of shops with owners trying to get us to by their goods. It is pretty much impossible to go into a shop without the owner hassling and haggling.

Later in the afternoon we stopped in Kom Ombo and saw another Temple there. This one was started in 67 BC and is most interesting because it was also used as a hospital. In fact they found some surgical tools and a papyrus showing brain surgery.

This evening will be a lot of fun at our Oriental themed Galbia party! Tomorrow we have a grueling day. We have to leave our ship at 3:00 AM to board our bus that is part of an armed convoy traveling to see Abu Simbel. This is the Great Temple of Ramses II that was moved with the High Dam was built in the late 1960’s. It should be an exciting day though. Sleep may take precedence over blogging tomorrow afternoon so we’ll see if I get on-line.
